I heard these reel to reel tape decks at the Newport show and was impressed even with $3900 Von Schweikert speakers. But with the big (and much more expensive) Quintessence speakers they really had a layered and detailed sound in this room. The tape decks were beautiful to look at and the sound was truly remarkable. I had a hard time mid day getting a seat in the sweet spot and had to come back later, I guess everyone was hearing the same magic.
I listened to some Jazz from master tape that was so realistic so dynamic, just seemed perfect. Large orchestral music was dynamic as hell with a phenomenal presence and huge layered sound stage. They even played The End by the Doors and the room was packed with spellbound listeners, a daring choice at a show but it worked.
I came back to this room many times and what I heard just seemed to get better and better. I will term this room my favorite.
