Neil Young direct-to-disc demo on Jimmy Fallon Monday (tomorrow) night
With Jack White. Supposed to record direct to disc live on the show on a refurbished 1947 Voice-o-Graph vinyl recording booth
The news I have been able to find doesn’t mention this demonstration, the losers, but Fallon talked about it Friday night.
NME: Neil Young on Jimmy Fallon
Pretty cool if it actually happens.
Neil is promoting his ‘A Letter Home’ album
Considering that, in my opinion, Neil Young varies between being in the first and fifth position in my list of favorite musicians, that I really like Willie Nelson, who wrote ‘Crazy’, that I love the album that Patsy Cline put out that popularized the song – the sound quality at this recording event really sucks.
I thought it was because the booth is sound proof and has limited facility for those outside to hear what is going on inside.
Here is a video – fewer commercials over here…

Here is Neil doing a second song, not shown on TV, half-in half-out of the booth. Same bad quality so maybe it is just NBC that sucks.

Haven’t found the video, but they played the freshly made LP with ‘Crazy’ on a record player that looked just like the one I got in 1968 that my parents must of paid $10 or so for. You know, with the detachable speakers on on each side?
With Neil being the only obvious celebrity championing high quality audio – this was kind of supremely embarrassing for our hobby, IMHO.
