The Best Speakers, the Most Respected Speakers
We’ve been wondering about just who would be on a list of the top contenders for the Champion of the World in several categories of high-end audio equipment.
Contenders are either the products we know to be great and hearing them several times actually *sound* great, those that we suspect to be great, and those that are generally considered to be great.
Note that some of this has to do with fashion, and some has to do with popularity, and some to do with actual performance.
To put it simply, if you won the lottery today – what would you want to audition tomorrow?

No longer available but still around on the used market, the Levinson HQD. Yes, you must get a certain distance away for the drivers to have any chance of integrating and yes, the woofers often get louder at a different rate than the quads, and yes the Quads are not the most reliable but if everything is right, the sound can be memorable. Strictly on rep, the big Magico horns. Was this ever a real product?
I’d certainly put a nice room at the top of that list, gear is cool, but without the right room, it’s a “mute” point.
