I would like to know your thoughts on the Spendor D7 compared to PSB Imagine T3 or Totem Forest Signatures. The reason I bring these 2 speakers up for comparison is, I recently listened to them. I have no way of auditioning the D7, but seriously interested. I have a Quad 21L currently, which I have owned and enjoyed thoroughly for 10 years. For my next speaker I would like it to be a full range, going down to at least 30Hz. I am also looking at PMC 24 and Proac D30R.
Hi Milind,
We are not very familiar with the speakers you have selected as candidates. There are a lot of trade-offs in this price range, and getting lower bass will likely require help from the room and a decent amplifier. For example, in this range we sell the Audio Note speakers, which require corners to sit in but in return get good bass and are very [efficient and] lively sounding – and the Acoustic Zen Adagio [front ported, with some good degree of flexibility with respect to placement], which is very even-handed top-to-bottom but requires a larger amplifier if you want to get lower bass at higher SPLs [and who doesn’t? :-)]. I can say, also, that the Totem rooms at shows often have good bass, and are impressive, though perhaps a little less even top-to-bottom than average.
My advice, pay attention to how the speaker likes to be positioned in a room [and how that conforms to your particular in-room restrictions] and what amp you are hearing the speakers with [and which amp you are going to use with the speakers] because the amp-speaker combination is extremely important here.
Good luck!
