Do you find yourself getting more and more sensitive…
… to all sorts of pleasant and annoying noises in our environment?
Is traffic noise getting louder and louder and getting more and more resolution? Kind of a pisser this is.
Are you able to identify the many missing frequencies in the music they play at the gym or at Whole Foods [just fill in the places where YOU experience ambient music]. Kind of shocking that music can still be identified and sometimes even enjoyable in all its sparseness.
Do you find yourself hearing the various resonances in peoples voices and comparing their subtle differences to the singers you listen to most often? Cool huh?
… etc.
We are not X-Men (or Alphas) but we do enjoy a degree of extra sensory hearing power. Lovin’ it.

Many years ago (well, not THAT many), I traveled to India, Bangladesh, and other South-East Asian countries after college.
So many of us here in the West take silence for granted. I remember walking around in New Delhi, and it was all noise – noise of people, noise of cars, buses, horns, factories, people shouting, rickshaws. It was overwhelming. There were only a few pockets where you could afford to have some silence. Else, it was just a cascade of sounds each drowning out the other.
After about 6 months there, I became so much more attuned to SOUND. When I came back, I realized I could stand next to a sawmill and not feel a thing. I also caught myself being more attuned to accents.
Sound is a wonderful thing. Even when its in the form of noise.
Some fair points there, and yeah how we can focus on one noise over another throughout the crowd of sounds that can happen. Although nothing worse than when all you can concentrate on is the pneumatic drill going off…
