'CES 2007'

Photos, Photos and more Photos

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006 by Mike

As of the last post, we have taken 15299 photos in the last 10 months. A quick estimate would be that 15000 of them are of stereo equipment and high-end audio paraphernalia.

That seems like a lot of photos.

It certainly is a lot of diskspace, at an average of about 7MB per photo that is about 105 GB.

About half of these pictures are taken at shows, 5000 at the Stereophile Show HE 2006, and one can presume that there may be a lot of photos taken at CES 2007 in smokey old Las Vegas as well.

It is funny, people who venture an opinion about these things come down on two sides of the fence: either the commentary is everything, who cares about the photos, or, on the other side, that the photos are awesome and the commentary is just icing.

Well, we’re still going to do both - so no need for a feud.

But still, 15000 seems like a lot of photos.

CES: Hear it all at The Venetian

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006 by Mike

2007 is the year CES dumped the Alexis Park in favor of a more secure environment called the Venetian…

Well, at least they are doing a little marketing for it, in the way of a Flash animation.

Kind of an empty message, and it ends by being about something else entirely [I won’t spoil the surprise by talking about it now].

High-end Audio at CES emailertisment goes like this:

What does the future sound like? Let us show you

Hey, at least they are not ignoring us entirely!

Another Show, Another Show Report

Sunday, November 26th, 2006 by Mike

Well, CES 2007 [YES! 2007! Really!] is coming right up.

We plan on doing a nice big show report again - with much more emphasis on high-end audio at T.H.E. Show and on Cool New Stuff the main conference in the conference center and less on the CES high-end audio show, not at the Alexis Park but at…the Venetian this year.

But we will try to get several pictures of EVERY room again, no matter if it is in a place where they probably charge people to walk on the carpets. :-) Being exhibitors at RMAF, we really appreciate show reports that have photos of all the rooms, including rooms that, oh I don’t know, maybe have $500K (or $150K) of equipment and sound better than the other rooms? Nahhhhhhh.

It is so strange to see show reports that do not have photos of one’s room - it is like the room Never Existed. Like Back to the Future - you only THINK you were an exhibitor at the show, but somehow you have been Erased From Existance.

So, OUR show reports try to cover everything - unless we get uninvited to do so. Nobody gets erased if we can help it. :-)

Our report will be located here: CES 2007 Show Report

We have requests to keep an eye out for the new Revel ultima 2 and Apogee loudspeakers. Any other requests?

High-end Audio at CES 2007

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006 by Mike

Yes, it is that time of year when, instead of dreaming of dancing sugar plums, manufacturers, dealers and motivated audiophiles dream of vast numbers of exotically populated (with audio equipment, …you guys…) Las Vegas hotel rooms.

First, we have to learn to type 2007 and not 2006.

We are, of course, planning on going ourselves. Take a few photos, listen to some tunes.

Will probably still use the first track on Radiohead’s Amnesiac as my test track.

For one, it is seemingly hard for most systems to get the dynamics and imaging right, not to mention some subtle shades of electronics in the midrange.

For another, it is not classical, jazz, close-mic’d female vocals, or pop rock - and so it freaks a lot of people out [but they are so easy to freak out, so not much of an accomplishment]

The ‘main’ ‘official’ part of the show is in the Venetian this year - but I think it is no longer where we will focus our energies - as more and more people migrate to T.H.E. Show.

And, well, there you have it. Any ideas or suggestions about what you would like to see in the show report? Anybody? Or do you want to be surprised? :-)
