At this point we have both sides of the rack attached to one another (how sweet!) and it is time to put the sixteen shelf supports - eight on each side - for the 4 shelves on this particular HRS MXR Equipment Rack. To facilitate this endeavor we brought the box downstairs so it would be much more handy. People don't say we are a pair of geniuses for nothing, tell you what.

The first one is placed into position. This is kind of a blind operation in that the wholes where the screws are going to screw in are kind of hidden in the darkness - obscured by the thickness of all that metal. In practice, this isn't a very hard operation - but it really does help to have the rack laying on its side , so that you don't have to hold one of these heavy things with one hand as  you fight to find the hole somewhere by shoving a screw into it over and over hoping it will settle in deeper this time indicating that there is indeed a place for a screw to go in underneath there and you can screw in the darn screw and rest your other hand for awhile because the thing is rather heavy. But you really can't rest your hand yet until the second screw is in place.

Well - I'm sure you have done fun things like this in the past. The whole point of this lengthy discussion is to point out that it is much easier to attach these when the rack is on its side. So whenever possible...

It is always a difficult, assembly-halting, question to figure out just where to position the locations of shelves - in this case to two middle shelves, as the other two are more or less obvious. We chose to have a taller space for the bottom shelf - both for traditional reasons and because heavy things usually go on the bottom shelf and heavy things are often taller things and often hot things and these both require more space and ventilation.

Oh, wait, Neli says "We left the largest space for the second shelf in order to accommodate a top-loading CD player if need be."

Well, I was looking at it upside down, you see...and it does make perfect sense, no matter what you decide to do.

Here is where we make the observation that 'Gee, wasn't it a lot easier to attach the shelf supports when it was laying on its side? Yes, dear, I think you are correct. Hey, what if we...

...Turn the rack over so it lies on its other side and make it easy on our poor overworked selves. Yes, dear, this will make attaching these shelf supports oh so much easier.

Well, there you have it. All that remains is the ... well nothing, really. This is the time when we kind of look at ourselves in a kind of bewildered daze wondering 'can we really be done, already? Is that it?'

OK, we had to throw these pictures in. How often are you going to see your equipment rack from below? Well, we don't get to see ours from below hardly at all - it is not as if we felt that we were missing something and anything like that.
