Previously, on the Audio Federation Show Report, we had just finished Monday. It is now Tuesday around noon, having stopped for a few hours at the LVCC to check out the home theater and video exhibits. A quarter of the show is now over. Whoo Hoo! I am so psyched... not then, then it was all good, but now, with this show report. You all know, don't you, that we will all be old men and women by the time we get to the end of this thing. OK, just so you know.

The busses let us off here, or worse, in the garage to the right a little bit off the photo. It is a noisy, smelly, crowded confused mess - but they do have crossing guards to help people fight their way between the ever angrier stream of cars. In general, Las Vegas manages the crowd flow during conventions very well - it is just that there are a lot of people here, in addition to the usual massive numbers of tourists here in January trying to get away from the cold and frigid North.

You know, there is another conference that is here, and I can't help but wonder what it takes to get a press pass into the Adult Entertainment Expo. Personally, I think 99.9% of the adult video industry is of very poor quality and sucks pretty bad - but the people seem to be fascinating [that's my word and I'm sticking with it] as we all watch them walk by us going the other way as we head to this or that high-end audio exhibit.

At this point I gave up trying to characterize many rooms that were uninteresting - to me anyway. Stopping to try and figure out just WHAT style they were TRYING to sound like, if ANY, and enumerating the large list of problems with the sound - nobody should have that job.

Not that all of the 'Not Sure' rooms sucked. But they either did not have music on, or they did not exceed my rather low expectations of what a system of their approximate price should sound like at a show.

In general, there are a large number of systems that do not sound very good and the fact that there are so many means a lot of unhappy people. Audiophiles, they can cruise the forums and trade mags to at least cull the herd a little bit, albeit much of the advice there is, how shall we put it nicely,... suspect.

But the ordinary Mary and the ordinary Joe, who do not want to spend their weekends and evenings doing research, woe to them who enters here.

This system powered by the Lamm ML1.1 while I was there, was too laid back for my taste, and apparently for others too [many people I talked to later, when I asked them 'Have you heard the Lamm room?' thought I meant this room instead of the room up on floor 35 with the ML3 amplifiers. And so I got to hear what they thought about this room before I told them... "Nooooo, I mean the OTHER Lamm room :-)"]

Just wanted to show that I tried to stop by - but many rooms did not even have a sign - they were just locked. Those, I lost track of and didn't photograph their signs.

These guys like tweaks. Controversial tweaks. Their room is always musical, and they are always smiling as they show me this and that new tweak they got on the system. So, this is one of the rooms that I would like to hang out in, if I had the time and if it made sense to do so - which it may or may not, depending on the phase of the moon and if the day of the month is a prime number or not.

I think that is a, oh, I haven't been following all the controversy, but some kind of clock? :-)

Some kind of super tweeter is attached here...

I guess we'll have to try some of these things sometime. And the pebbles are pretty, too. I wonder if they would work if I put them on my computer?
