Hi Dave,

Thanks, and I believe the movie you are referring to is Fantastic Voyage :-)

Yeah, we have the transport and DAC on all the time unless their associated preamp snuggles into a different system during an audition or something, or one of the periodic Rocky Mountain power outages strikes. To my ears, after the pieces have fully broken in, their sound stabilizes after 5 - 7 days, depending on how much they are being played, the ambient temperature, and who knows what else (the Moon is in the Seventh House, and Jupiter aligns with...).

We should have Sogon here shortly, and there are a number of other competitors to the Valhalla digital cables that we should get in here sometime - most likely after CES, as many people are now rattling the cages trying to get all their gear back in time to shlep it to Las Vegas (can you believe that 2007 is almost here?).

For the rest of you out there in Digital Playback Land, a 1/2 meter length of Audio Note Sogon cable used between the transport and DAC is painfully INEXPENSIVE compared to the honorable competition - it is in the same league as these others (details forthcoming) yet because of the way the pricing is structured, it is less than 1/3 the price.

I'm listening to a Jerry Douglas CD whose music is wafting up - bet you didn't know that music could waft... but it can :-) - from the first floor as I sit in my office on the other side of the house on the 2nd floor.

Happy Thanksgiving, Dave,
Mike.

Mike,

It reallyis intriguing to get into the sub-miniturized submersible (what the heck was the name of that movie?) and ride along inside your mind as you do these experiments. Some of my very favorite audio reading goes on right here!

On the AN front - You really want to leave both the transport and DAC turned on ALL the time. People have chronicled the continuing improvement on the original CDT Two over a nine month period and given up the diary-keeping while the slope ahead pointed upward still. The CDT Three has vastly greater upward potential, of course.

I don't know what you have betwixt transport and DAC, but it REALLY should be Sogon. Test it against anything you like in that role. A single strand of it is easy=peasy to justify, especially at this level. Explaining its absence is much harder. ;-)

Blog, on, blog on. The view is great from the sidecar!

For laughs, I'll tell you what I'm listening to as I type this in my office. iTunes on a 2 GHz G5 iMac (Apple Lossless format) wireless networked to Airport Express, Straightwire mini-RCA cable, Red Wine Audio Clari-T amp, AN SPe cable, Coral speakers with 3.5" x 5" alnico magnet'd speakers (co-ax? whizzer? who knows?) - 6"w x16"h x 8"d. Real walnut veneer, sparkly brown/gold tweed grille cloth. (The Audio Note system upstairs in the LR sits quietly waiting for my step-son to wake up from working the 2nd shift last night.) Loreena McKennit Live in Toronto & Paris sounds pretty good, although her bass player has taken the night off, of course.
